My boyfriend and I (early 20s) stayed for two nights and loved it (he isn’t even an out-doors person). The staff on site were very polite and friendly in the way you could tell they cared about you enjoying yourself.
We stayed in the bungalow Quandong (one of the cheaper cabins), which we found to be very private and relaxing. We had no complaints of the cabin, the furniture was beautiful with most of it being carved wood. We did come across the odd spider and some ants in the cabin which is a given staying the the forest however, if would not be anything more than I would come across at home and they supply fly spray / Aeroguard.
The spa was very nice and the TV/DVD was all up to date and working as it should. When we arrived they told us about the games room which has about 1000 bluray/DVDs we could grab at our leisure to bring back to our room (games room was open 24-7 – unmonitored). Games room also had table tennis, board games, pool, computer, tea etc. This added a nice touch to our stay as we did watch a few movies at night and played table tennis when we went to grab movies.
I unfortunately had a migraine one morning of our stay and when my boyfriend went to ask whether they had any panadol they gave him a whole box free of charge which was very appreciated.
The meals were expensive but you do get your moneys worth (they do not let you go hungry). We ended up taking some of the food home with us as we couldn’t eat it all. I was a but unsure about the re-heating in the microwave situation but the food tasted good; it was as if you were eating it straight out of the oven/pan.
Given the limited amount of cabins in the retreat it was rare for us to see other people; we had the orchard and rainforest walk to ourselves. We did not see any of the staff other than when we approached the reception area so they do respect your privacy.
If you are looking for an escape from the city this is a perfect spot to go being surrounded by mountains and staying in a glass cabin with a rainforest view. The area feels safe and relaxing. I would recommend this place for a 2-3 night stay; enough to explore the rainforest, have a picnic, unwind and see the glow worms. Overall the retreat exceeded expectations.
It is expensive to stay here but for special occasions I do think it is worth the stay – I hope to return in future.
